What I Got My 18-Month-Old Daughter For Christmas

Christmas gift guide season is here and I’m starting with what I got my 18-month-old daughter for Christmas.

This was something that I started doing here on the blog last year in case anyone was looking for some Christmas gift ideas for their little ones.

And now that this time of year is here again, I wanted to share what I am getting the girls again this year.

Especially now that I no longer have a 6-month-old baby.

A lot can change in a year.

Last year my baby girl wasn’t even walking.

Now she is a walking and babbling toddler.

She is extremely curious and no longer interested in just toys that just light up or sing a tune.

In fact, if it was up to her, she would much rather play with all of her older sister’s toys.

With this in mind, I knew that I wanted to pick out things for her that would challenge her and encourage further learning and development.

What Can An 18 Month Old Do?

Before I dive into this Christmas gift guide for toddler girls, let’s talk about this because this is important to know.

What can an 18-month-old do?

In a previous post where I shared what I got my 1-year-old for her birthday, I talked about some of the things you can look forward to with a 1-year-old.

Some of those things that you can look forward to with a 1-year-old are:

• Pointing towards objects
• Saying two to four-word sentences 
• Waving goodbye
• Mastering the Pincer grasp
• Play peek a boo
• Imitate scribbling

At 18 months, I can tell you that my daughter is pretty much doing all of these things.

So when it comes to getting her things, I want to get her things that only further develop these skills.

I officially consider my daughter a toddler now so I don’t want to get her things that scream “baby”.

She still likes some things that are considered “baby” but for the most part, she wants to get to the good stuff.

Which is usually something that can grab and hold her attention for a little longer than a few seconds.

I know I prefer to get things for my girls that hold their attention for a little while as well as things that I know that they would genuinely like.

My 18-month-old does have an interest in certain cartoons such as Mickey Mouse, Daniel Tiger, and Sesame Street.

But I have noticed in the past that when I get younger children character items, they don’t really play with them long.

So I tend to stray from those until they get older and can say that is exactly what they want.

With this in mind, you will notice I did not get any character toys and mostly grabbed wooden toys that are geared toward learning and pretend-play in this gift guide.

I am a big fan of play-based activities and toys for toddlers that allow them to explore in their own way.

So that is what you can expect through the items I got below

Now that we know what an 18-month-old is capable of doing, let’s get into what I got my daughter for Christmas.

What I Got My 18-Month-Old Daughter For Christmas

Baby DeeDee Sleepsie Quilted Pajamas

The very first thing that I got for my 18-month-old is these Sleepsie Quilted Pajamas from Baby DeeDee.

These pajamas not only keep my daughter warm and cozy at night but they are footed with nonslip grips and have extra fabric around the elbows and knees for any littles that may be crawling.

I wish that I had discovered these much sooner when my daughter first started crawling.

Another feature that I like is that they have the zipper option around her legs that makes it easy to change her diaper.

I have mentioned before when sharing my baby’s must-haves, that I prefer either 2-way zippers or zippers around the diaper because I never liked having to completely unzip my baby out of her clothes.

If you have been around long enough, then you know that I have been recommending Lovevery products for a while now.

It is one of my favorite subscriptions for the girls.

They have such good high-quality toys that both of my girls love to play with and continue to play with even after months of having them.

Hape Bubble Blowing Whale

A toy that I thought my daughter would really like is this Bubble Blowing Whale by Hape.

I’m a big fan of Hape toys for younger children so when I saw this on Amazon, I thought it would make a great addition to her bath toys.

This is a bath toy that squirts bubbles in the bathtub.

All you do is a add little bubble bath or soap to its spout and it will create bubbles.

If your child is anything like mine and loves bubbles, then they are going to love this bubble-making toy.

Hape Mighty Echo Microphone

Another Hape product that I grabbed is the Mighty Echo Microphone.

I previously said earlier that I have a walking and talking toddler.

And boy does she love to hear herself talk.

All day long, she is babbling whether it is to herself or to me.

I know that talking is a milestone that she is working toward and slowly grasping it the more she does it.

So I thought why not encourage her to talk more with this little microphone that also echos your voice?

I may regret this later but at least I know she will have fun with it.

Hape Pound & Tap Bench

The last Hape item I grabbed was this Hape Pound & Tap Bench.

This is a very popular item on Amazon and I was this close to getting it for my daughter’s birthday back in June but decided to wait until Christ when she would be a little older.

This is actually a really cool toy because it’s two toys in one.

Your little one can pound away at the balls at the top.

Or slide out the xylophone at the bottom and pound away at that.

Either way, this will be a fun toy that I know my daughter will absolutely love because she gets to use a hammer to make lots of noise.

And it’s also honing those fine motor skills that require hand and eye coordination.

Melissa & Doug GO Tots Wooden Roll & Ride Bus 

So Hape is just one of my favorite brands for younger children.

If you keep up with any gift guides for kids, then you know Melissa & Doug is also one of my favorite brands as well.

Starting with this Melissa & Doug GO Tots Wooden Roll & Ride Bus.

This is actually a newer product that they have recently released for toddlers.

My daughter is currently obsessed with “The Wheels On The Bus” song so I figure she would love this little wooden bus.

It comes with 3 wooden disks that she can slide into the bus and push around.

Melissa & Doug GO Tots Wooden Schoolyard 

Another new toy that was recently released by Melissa & Doug is this Wooden Schoolyard.

This toy also comes with wooden disks that she can play with by sliding them down the slide, swinging, and twirling all around.

I know that my daughter is going to enjoy playing with this schoolyard as she explores all the different ways that she can play with it.

Melissa & Doug Magnetic Wand Number Maze

And the last Melissa & Doug item I got for my daughter is this Magnetic Wand Number Maze.

This item is actually made for older children because it requires knowing how to count.

But I still thought that this would be a good item for my 18-month-old as she explores how to use the magnetic wand to move around the small balls inside of the maze.

As she gets older, she will learn how to count so eventually she will be able to match the same number of balls to the number.

But until then, she can have fun moving the little balls around.

The Pout-Pout Fish Board Book

I will be finishing off this gift guide with 2 board books that I will be adding to my 18-month-old’s library.

As easy as it is to stock up on toys for kids, I don’t like to just buy toys.

I also like to include books.

I shared some board books that my 1-year-old already has in a previous blog post.

So the next two books will be added to her library as well.

Starting with The Pout-Pout Fish Board Book.

This is a classic book that talks all about turning those frowns upside down.

Corduroy Board Book

And the last thing I got for my 18-month-old daughter for Christmas is Corduroy.

This is another classic book that is about a teddy bear and a little girl who become the best of friends.

You can never go wrong with classic tales for your little ones.

My daughter has been showing more of an interest in books so I love that I’m expanding her collection this Christmas.
