What I Got My 3-Year-Old Daughter For Christmas

Last week I talked about what I got my 6-month-old for Christmas, now it’s time to talk about what I got my 3-year-old daughter for Christmas.

If you have been following along with the blog then you know that my daughter just had her 3rd birthday a couple of months ago.

And I shared what I got for her 3rd birthday in that post.

So as you can see my daughter’s birthday and Christmas are only a couple of months.

What I have been doing when it comes to my daughter’s birthday and Christmas is getting gifts that complement each other.

As well as a few new ones to add to her toy collection.

At 3 years old, my daughter can vocally tell me what she wants for and it is usually anything she sees that looks cool.

But I know my daughter and know which toys that she will really like and likely play with longer if I were to get them.

Much like how I did with my baby girl, I try to keep the toys to a minimum and get more quality wooden toys as well educational and creative items that will help further her development.

What Kind Of Toys Are Appropiate For 3-Year-Olds?

Before I get into what I got my 3-year-old for Christmas, let’s talk about what a 3-year-old would even like.

What kind of toys are appropriate for 3-year-olds?

Because there is a difference between a 1 and a 3-year-old as well as a 3 and 5-year-old.

At 3-years-old, your little one is no longer a baby so you shouldn’t be getting baby toys that won’t keep them occupied very long.

But at the same time, you cannot go get things that are way too challenging for a 3-year-old or something that has a ton of small pieces because a 3-year-old is still liable to put small things in their mouths.

It is really is a fine balance when you think about it.

According to Mom Loves Best, they say that 3-year-olds greatly benefit from educational toys and toys that work on their motor skills.

These would include toys like:

  • Building blocks
  • Modeling Clay
  • Toddler Puzzles
  • Pop up books

If you read my post on some of the play-based activities that I like to do with my toddler, then you would know another big thing is pretend play.

At 3, your toddler’s imagination is expanding and they like to engage in pretend play such as dressing up and role-playing.

I know my daughter loves to act out things I’m doing around the house so getting things that mimic what I’m doing is a big hit for her.

Now that we know what kind of toys are appropriate for 3-years-olds, let’s talk about some of the things I got my toddler for Christmas.

What I Got My 3-Year-Old Daughter For Christmas

Melissa & Doug Grocery Store Play Food And Role Play Set

So if you saw what I got my daughter for her 3rd birthday, then you know I got her the Melissa & Doug Grocery Store.

This set just complements this grocery store.

As I was saying above, my daughter loves to roleplay and this set comes with the apron so she can act like she is the cashier as well as some food and money to check out.

When she got the grocery store for her birthday, I already knew that I was going to get this for Christmas.

Melissa & Doug Grocery Cart

This is another item that I knew that I was getting since my daughter got the grocery store for her birthday.

Whenever she sees this grocery cart in the store, she always goes straight to it and likes to push it around while I’m grabbing things.

Now she can have her own grocery cart at home to go grocery shopping in her grocery store.

Melissa & Doug Pasta Play Food Set

An item that my daughter has had since she was 1 year old was a play kitchen.

And she absolutely loves her kitchen.

She loves to act like she cooking and baking and it is probably used at least once a day.

Since she loves to mimic cooking, I like to get some new play food to play with every year, and this year I got the Pasta Play Food Set by Melissa & Doug.

She loves to help me make spaghetti when I’m cooking so I know that she is going to love having her own pasta food to make spaghetti in her kitchen.

The Lovevery Block Set

A new item that I was excited to get my daughter this year was this Block Set by Lovevery.

A lot of people think of the Play Kits from Lovevery, but they have more than just play kits.

This block set is a hot item that my daughter loves and can be played in multiple ways.

Whether your little one is building a bridge or a house, or spelling out words, or even sorting the different shapes, this block set contains 70 pieces that provide endless ways to play.

The Free Spirit Play Kit by Lovevery

Another item that I got from Lovevery was The Free Spirit Play Kit.

I was gifted another play kit for my daughter’s birthday back in October, but I was recently gifted this play kit and this play kit is also a hit.

I just love the quality of their play kits and how their toys are geared towards development and imaginative play.

The Free Spirit Play Kit contains:

  • Wooden Camper
  • Camping tent and sleeping bags w/ the wooden people
  • Wooden counting box w/ pegs
  • Puzzle Board
  • Wood Stacking Boulders
  • Matching Cards
  • Board Book

This play kit was loaded with goodies that my daughter loves to play with, especially the wooden camper van with the tent as well as the wooden counting box.

If you are looking for quality toys that will fuel your little’s one development, you should definitely check out Lovevery’s Play Kits.

Melissa & Doug Wooden Doll Closet

The next item I got was this Melissa & Doug Wooden Doll Closet.

My daughter is a lot like most little girls and loves to play with her baby dolls whether she is dressing them up, feeding them, or changing them.

Well, she has accumulated quite a bit of dolls clothing because she loves baby dolls and that is what people like to get her.

So I figured I get her this Wooden Doll Closet by Melissa & Doug to give her somewhere to put her doll’s clothes instead of them being all over her room.

Melissa & Doug Wooden Doll Stroller

Along with the doll closet, I also grabbed this Wooden Doll Stroller by Melissa & Doug.

My daughter currently has a very cheap doll stroller that keeps falling apart when she is pushing it around so I knew it was time to get something sturdier.

This stroller looks very sturdy and durable to outlast a toddler which is why I went with this one.

Ikea Dollhouse

The next item I got my 3-year-old daughter for Christmas was this Ikea Dollhouse.

This will be her very first dollhouse.

Even though she loves to play with baby dolls, she has been showing more of an interest in some of the smaller figurines from her Lovevery Play Kits and likes to play house with them.

So I thought that I would get her an actual dollhouse so she can really play house with them.

And this is not just a dollhouse either.

Once your little one outgrows this dollhouse, it can be transitioned into a wall shelf for extra storage to hold books and other small items.

You got to love a multifunctional toy.

Ikea Watercolor Box Set

So the next couple of items is geared towards fueling my daughter’s creativity starting with this Watercolor Box Set from Ikea.

My daughter has been wanting to paint so I thought this watercolor set would be fun for her to do and create less mess.

I love that this set comes with brushes and water cups and a little box to store everything in.

Ikea Portable Drawing Case

Another item I picked up at Ikea was this Portable Drawing Case.

I love going to Ikea during this time of year and getting gifts for my daughter and the prices are just amazing.

This case can hold all your little one’s crayons and colored pencils and provides a surface for them to draw and color on.

This is perfect for traveling and on the go and I love that it keeps everything in one spot.

My Pretty…Coloring And Activity Book

While on the topic of coloring, the next item I got my daughter was this Coloring and Activity Book that I was gifted called My Pretty…

This is a coloring and activity book for young girls of color to celebrate who they are and what makes them beautiful inside and out.

I love that this book is catered specifically to young girls of color.

The pictures throughout the book are of young girls whose hair is big, curly, braided, and twisted so my daughter would be able to see herself throughout the book while she is coloring

This is also a great activity book that speaks affirmations and also gives your child the opportunity to create affirmations for themselves.

This book is such a great gift that I think many young girls of color would love and I’m so glad that I was able to gift this book to my daughter.

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Book

And the last two items I got for my 3-year-old daughter for Christmas are books.

I have been building my daughter’s library since she was born and I like to add books throughout the year.

In order to develop a love of reading within your children, you have to introduce books to your little one early on and that is what I have been doing.

Starting with this classic one that I got this year, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr.

The Night Before Preschool Book

The other book that I got this year was The Night Before Preschool by Natasha Wing.

Now my daughter is 3, it is time to start preparing her for preschool.

Much like when I was potty training her and using a book to help guide her through the steps, I’m hoping this book will provide the same for her.

This will likely be a book that we read during her bedtime routine in the months before she starts preschool.

.
