What I Got My 1-Year-Old Baby Girl For Her Birthday

If you have been keeping up with me on Instagram, then you know that my baby girl just celebrated her birthday and turned 1 year old.

This past year just flew by.

I feel like it was only yesterday that I was writing blog posts documenting my pregnancy journey.

And now I’m writing posts documenting my journey with a 3-year-old and now a 1-year-old.

A lot has happened this past year including her crawling at 6 months and walking a little after 10 months.

She has even started getting a couple of teeth.

It could just be me, but I find it kind of difficult to get a 1-year-old something for their first birthday.

A lot of 1-year-olds have not quite developed preferences for certain things.

For instance, with my 3-year-old, I know that she likes baby dolls, pretending to cook, dressing up, and even trains.

That narrows down some things that I know that I could get her and she would genuinely enjoy them.

You can give my 1-year-old some tubberware and she would be happy.

I obviously don’t want to get her that so I have to think and get things that will not only nurture her developing mind but also allow her to develop interests as well.

So that is what I did and I want to share some of the things she got in case anyone is looking for birthday gift ideas for a 1-year-old baby girl.

What To Look Forward To With A 1-Year-Old

Before I dive into some 1-year-old birthday gifts, let’s talk about this.

What can we look forward to having a 1-year-old?

When your baby turns 1, they are officially entering toddlerhood.

They are very much still a baby right when they turn 1 but as they inch closer to 2, you will begin to see the transition to toddlerhood.

I know before I became a mom the first time, I often wondered why moms would still refer to their child’s age in months even after they turned 1?

Well after having my first child, I quickly learned why.

A 13-month-old is very different from a 23-month-old, even if they are both 1 year old.

There are so many skills that are further mastered in the second year, but some of those skills won’t come until later in the year.

One of the biggest skills that your baby will master this year if they have not already is walking.

I mentioned above that my baby girl has been walking for a couple of months now, so she is really honing that skill and will likely start trying to run halfway through this year.

Along with walking, according to Verywell Family, other skills that you can look forward to this year are:

  • Pointing towards objects
  • Saying two to four-word sentences
  • Waving goodbye
  • Mastering the Pincer grasp
  • Play peek a boo
  • Imitate scribbling
  • Showing an interest in other kids
  • Reacting to emotions

So a lot of things to look forward to.

With all of these skills, they will develop and master as they venture further into toddlerhood.

I have already experienced this once with my older daughter so I know that in order for her to develop these skills, she is going to need the space to do so.

This means making sure our home is baby-proofed and providing her with some play-based learning activities that will help her development.

With this in mind, I figured out some things that not only I think my baby girl will love, but also help her hone her skills.

Let’s get into what I got my 1-year-old baby girl for her birthday.

.

What I Got My 1-Year-Old Baby Girl For Her Birthday

Evenflo EveryFit 4-in-1 Convertible Car Seat

The very first thing that I got my 1-year-old baby girl for her birthday was a new car seat.

And we decided to get her the Evenflo EveryFit 4-in-1 Convertible Car Seat.

This is the same car seat that my 3-year-old has and we really like this one because of how durable and comfortable it is for our daughter.

This is a 4-in-1 car seat that can be used rear-facing and front-facing and accommodates anywhere between 4 to 120 lbs.

So this is pretty much a one-and-done car seat that will grow with your child.

I made the mistake of having to get 3 different car seats with our older daughter and I will never do that again.

We transitioned our baby girl to this seat once she turned 1 and we are hoping to never have to get another one again.

Munchkin Weighted Straw Trainer Cup

The next item I got my baby girl is these Munchkin Weighted Straw Trainer Cups.

Even though my baby is exclusively breastfed, we have been incorporating other liquids into her diet.

In particular water and now that she is one, we will be trying to introduce milk to her as well.

She has been showing an interest in our straw cups that we drink out of so we have been letting her practice using these and she has really gotten the hang of it.

I really like that the straws are weighted so no matter which way she tips the cup, she is able to still get something out when she starts sucking on it.

Learning how to suck throw a straw is a skill that all babies will need to learn and this cup makes it a little easier for them.

Munchkin Snack Catcher

Along with getting her some new drinking cups, I also grabbed these Munchkin Snack Catchers.

One of the skills that I talked about above is the Pincer Grasp.

The Pincer Grasp is the ability to pick up items using your index finger and thumb.

This is an ability that babies begin to master around this time and the best way for them to practice is through meal time.

If you are familiar with the feeding schedule that I used with my then 7-month-old, we are still following that schedule.

However, we have started incorporating snacks and more table food at meal times.

When she is not in her high chair, I will put puffs or baby cereal in this snack catcher and let her walk around with it.

She has to put her hand through it and pick up one thing at a time in order to get a snack while the rest of the snacks stay safely inside the container.

This creates less mess and gives a little her little independence which is what she will want more and more as she gets older.

Not to mention, this is great to have on the go.

Baby Bar & Co Silitensils Set

While on the topic of mealtime, an item that my baby was gifted is these Baby Bar & Co Silitensils Set.

These are made for babies 6 months and up and are an introduction to using utensils.

These small utensils are great for small hands and for also learning how to stab the food so they can bring it to their mouths.

They are also made of silicone so they are easy to clean.

I’m really looking forward to trying these out with my baby girl as she gets better and better at using utensils to eat.

The Babbler Play Kit by Lovevery

Moving onto toys that I got my 1-year-old for her birthday and I want to start with The Babbler Play Kit by Lovevery.

If you have been keeping up with the blog, then you are no stranger to my mention of Loverevery on here.

I have talked about these play kits in quite a few blog posts.

I have been getting the Loevery Play Kits since my baby girl was 4 months old and there is hardly anything that she doesn’t like.

She will even play with some of the toys from the previous kits because she has figured out how they work and how to properly play with them.

The latest play kit that we have received is The Babbler Play Kit.

This play kit is made for children between 13 months and 15 months.

In this kit you will find:

  • Slide & Seek Ball Run
  • Bunnies In A Felt Burrow
  • Flexible Wooden Stacker
  • Circle Of Friends Puzzle
  • Wooden Coin Bank Set w/ Coins
  • Carrot Lid w/ Carrots (for Coin Bank)
  • Posting Lid (for Coin Bank)
  • Board Book

There are many good learning toys in here that we are looking forward to playing with and that will help further develop her skills.

You can check out this play kit through the link below.

Melissa & Doug First Bead Maze

Another learning toy that we got is this Bead Maze by Melissa & Doug.

This is a classic developmental toy that many young children should have.

It is made for children 12 months and up and has suction cups on the bottom so that it can stick to many smooth surfaces.

I can stick this to our glass storm door or even on the dishwasher in the kitchen and this will provide her with some entertainment for a little while.

Melissa & Doug Hide and Seek Farm Wooden Activity Board

The next item I got that is also from Melissa & Doug is this Hide And Seek Farm Wooden Activity Board.

I have always enjoyed getting Melissa & Doug toys for my girls because of how durable their toys are and a lot of their toys are geared towards learning.

This is why I also decided to get this activity board for my baby girl.

This board has latches that her tiny hands can pick up and when she does, there are magnets with farm animals on it underneath.

Right she just likes to fiddle with and open doors on the board, but as she gets older, we can start to work on naming the animals and putting them in the correct spot.

Melissa & Doug Rainbow Caterpillar Gear Toy

And the last toy that she got from Melissa & Doug is this Rainbow Caterpillar Gear Toy.

The interchangeable gears are small enough for little hands to grab ahold of and turn.

This will also be a great toy that we can use later as a way to teach her the colors.

Musical Wooden Chicken Instrument by The Manhattan Toy Company

A very unique birthday gift that my 1-year-old baby girl got is this Musical Wooden Chicken Instrument by The Manhattan Toy Company.

This toy is an all-in-one music toy made for toddlers 12 months and up.

This toy has a xylophone with 2 wooden mallets, a cymbal, a maraca tail, and 2 clacking wings.

Everything on this toy is meant to make lots of noise that I’m sure our little ones will delight in.

Baby Einstein Magic Touch Musical Wooden Electronic Guitar

Another musical item that she was gifted is this Magic Touch Wooden Guitar by Baby Einstein.

If you all remember some of the gifts that my then 6-month-old received for Christmas last year, she actually got the drum set from Baby Einstein.

She really loves the drum set so I decided to get the guitar from that same line.

Hape Scoot Around Ride On Wooden Bike

And the last toy that my 1-year-old got for her birthday is this Scoot Around Ride On Wooden Bike By Hape.

I can tell you all that this bike has already been a hit with my baby girl.

Even though she can’t quite ride it yet, she likes to hop onto it and pump her legs up and down to mimic the motion.

She will also push it around like a walker toy which also helps to strengthen her legs.

This bike is made for children 12 months and up and I can already tell that we will be using this bike for a while.

.
