What I Got My 2-Year-Old Daughter For Her Birthday

Those who follow me on social media would know that my 2-year-old daughter celebrated her birthday a couple of weeks ago.

It’s crazy to think that I now have a 2-year-old which officially marks the end of my baby being a baby!

To be completely honest, we have been deep into toddlerhood for a while now, but with her officially being 2 now, I have a legit toddler now!

And now I’m a mom to a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old.

I have really been doing this second-time mom thing for 2 years now.

Well, if you keep up with the blog, then you know that when my girls have birthdays, I like to share what they received in order to give others some ideas on what to get their kids for their birthdays.

Last year, I shared what my daughter got when she turned one which I can link below.

And just like last year, I will share what she got this year.

If you are looking for some birthday gift ideas for 2-year-old toddler girls, then just keep reading.

What To Look Forward To With A 2 Year Old

Before I dive into what I got my 2-year-old daughter for her birthday, let’s talk about this.

What can we look forward to with a 2-year-old?

Well, the first obvious thing that I already mentioned is that you officially have a toddler now.

In my previous post on what to expect with a 1-year-old, I noted that you still need to go by months during the second year because a 13-month-old is very different from a 23-month-old.

That is no longer a thing now that your child is 2.

The moment, my oldest daughter turned 2, she became her yearly age instead of her monthly.

And when it comes to doctor appointments, you will start taking your child annually instead of every few months.

The other thing that comes to mind when one thinks of a 2-year-old is the “Terrible Twos”

When a child turns 2, they are starting to gain and show more independence and want to do more things themselves.

Your child’s motor skills have improved dramatically in their second year of life which consists of running, climbing and even jumping.

They have also mastered how to zip and unzip items, take off clothes, and even go through the motions of brushing their teeth.

As incredible as it is that our children are learning how to be more independent, they are still very much dependent on us.

Which is where their frustration and therefore “tantrums” arise.

They are learning and testing boundaries during this stage so you are going to come face to face with some big emotions from your little one.

For many parents, this is a tough phase.

But it is a necessary one because, on the other side of this stage, you will have a much more independent child because of it.

According to Verywell Family, other things that you expect with a 2-year-old:

  • Begin forming sentences
  • Finding hidden objects
  • Sorting shapes and colors
  • Pointing to items that you name
  • Developing a more dominant hand
  • Engage in imaginative and pretend play
  • Express interest in other kids
  • Imitate behaviors

Because you will likely have a busy toddler on your hands during this time, it is important they do so safely, so if you haven’t babyproofed the home yet, this is definitely the time to do so.

Now that we have an idea of what to expect with a 2-year-old, let’s get into what I got my daughter for her birthday.

What I Got My 2-Year-Old Daughter For Her Birthday

Melissa & Doug Spray, Squirt & Squeegee Pretend Play Cleaning Set

The first item I want to mention that I got my 2-year-old daughter for her birthday is the Pretend Cleaning Set from Melissa & Doug.

If your toddler is anything like mine, then she loves to help me clean around the house.

At this stage, most toddlers are really helpful and want to help with daily mundane tasks.

Such as cleaning.

So why not get them their own set to clean with?

We already own the other cleaning set from Melissa & Doug, so we extended that collection with this set.

Melissa & Doug Wooden Frozen Treats Ice Cream Play Set

Another Melissa & Doug toy I got was this Frozen Treats Ice Cream Set.

We have a play kitchen that both of my girls love to play with so I usually get them some different food to play with every year.

I prefer Melissa & Doug toys just because they are more durable and last longer.

And this year, I opted for this popsicle set since my younger daughter loves popsicles.

Melissa & Doug PAW Patrol Pup Backpack Role Play Set

The last of the Melissa & Doug toys are this Paw Patrol Backpack Role Play Set.

My daughter has become a Paw Patrol fan like most young toddlers that hit this stage.

I’m not the biggest fan of getting character this young because I personally don’t kids appreciate it as much.

But when I came across this set, I was drawn to it because of the imaginative aspect of it.

My daughter has gotten into pretend and role play and I know that she would love to pretend to be a member of the Paw Patrol.

CoComelon Boo Boo JJ Deluxe Plush

I know I just said that I wasn’t a big fan of character toys but I have to share this one by Cocomelon.

Because my daughter is also a fan of Cocomelon.

I know that there is some controversy around the show, but my daughter really does learn a lot from watching it.

Which is why I knew that this doll would be a hit with her.

This particular doll focuses on the “Boo Boo Song” which is what JJ sings when he gets hurt or gets a “boo-boo”

The primary reason that I like this doll is because it’s interactive.

When you press his hand, certain areas light on the doll where JJ gets “boo-boo” and he starts to sing and cry.

The way to get him to stop crying is the put a bandage on his “boo-boo” so that he feels better.

This is guaranteed to keep my daughter occupied for a little while as she tends to all of his “boo-boos”

Hape Dancing Butterflies Push and Pull Toy

Another toy brand that I love is Hape which lead me to pick up this Push and Pull Toy.

This toy is made for kids 12 months and up so by 2, your kid will know how to work this toy.

I like this toy because it is great for coordination and balance.

You cannot push or pull this toy unless it is balanced.

Plus the colorful butterflies are a nice touch as well.

MAGNA-TILES

Next up, I decided to get some MAGNA-TILES for my daughter.

If you are unfamiliar with MAGNA-TILES, they are just small magnetic pieces that you can put together to create a variety of different things such as buildings, houses, and even castles.

This is such a cool and popular toy amongst kids.

And even younger kids because the bigger magnetic pieces are great for smaller hands.

Our local library has these and I notice how much my daughter plays with them there so I decided to grab this set for our home.

Munchkin Sound Asleep Nursery Projector and Sound Machine

My daughter sleeps with a sound machine and the one that we had recently stopped working.

It was actually a hand-me-down from my older daughter so we have had it for a while before it gave out.

I like using this sound machine from Munchkin because not only is it a sound machine, but it also has a projector and night light.

My daughter loves looking at the different animals on the wall from the projector and likes to sleep with the rain noise.

Having a sound machine with a toddler is a must so I knew that I had to get this again.

Radio Flyer Classic Pink Tricycle

The last items that I got my 2-year-old toddler for her birthday are the big ones that she received.

Starting with this pink tricycle.

My daughter got a wooden ride-on bike for her birthday last year that she really loves.

But I can tell that she is outgrowing it.

So I decided that it was time to get a tricycle.

This tricycle is made for ages 2.5 to 5, so she should have this tricycle for a little while before she outgrows it.

I know once she gets the hang of the petals, she will absolutely love riding around in her tricycle.

Amazon Fire 7 Kids Tablet

And the last thing my daughter got for her birthday was an Amazon Fire Kids Tablet.

I’m not a mom who is against screen time.

But I am a mom who likes to keep it age appropriate and monitors what my kids watch when it comes to screen time.

That is why I like the Amazon tablets for my kids.

I can mostly control what my kids are watching and how long they can watch it.

This tablet is made for younger children between the ages of 3 to 7 and only shows content appropriate for this age range.

Parents can grant access to streaming apps such as Netflix, Disney Plus, PBS, and Nick Jr if they wish to do so, but you don’t have to because there is a lot of content on there that your kids will likely love.

My older daughter also has this same tablet and I really like it so I knew that I would be getting one for my younger one as well.

.
