Nursery Essentials Featuring Newborn Nursery Furniture

As a mama of 2, I have realized that I have never shared the nursery essentials that I love to have in a baby room.

I have shared what it is like to create a nursery nook in our bedroom for a newborn.

But not actually what I like to have in a nursery itself when I have the chance to have one.

If you all have been keeping up with the blog or my social media, then you would know in our previous home, my youngest didn’t have a nursery.

Our girls actually shared a bedroom.

And even though I loved the idea of them sharing a room, I think we should have waited until she got older.

My youngest turned out to not be the best sleeper early on which led to either her disturbing her older sister’s sleep or being back in our bed cosleeping with us.

Well, when we moved at the end of last year, we acquired an extra room and I immediately knew that the girls would have their own rooms until we were ready for them to share again.

So I finally got the chance to create the nursery I wanted for my baby girl.

While I have been setting up furniture and decorating my daughter’s room, Newborn Nursery Furniture reached out to me and gifted me one of their Nursery Chairs to try and put in my daughter’s room.

And I have to say that I really like the chair.

Today, I will be sharing my review of that chair as well as the other nursery essentials that I like in a baby nursery.

If you are interested in some nursery must-haves, then just keep reading.

A Little About Newborn Nursery Furniture

Before I dive into my nursery essentials, let’s take a moment to talk a little bit about Newborn Nursery Furniture.

Newborn Nursery Furniture is an online retailer providing competitive prices on nursery furniture including Nursery Chairs and Ottomans.

They are based in Pennsylvania and distributed nationwide excluding Hawaii, Alaska, and Puerto Rico.

They started with the aim of creating the best nursing memories for their customers.

Especially nursing moms by finding and providing quality nursing seating.

They do their research and search for retailers that carry top-quality products in order to provide the right nursery chair for their customers.

Coming from a mama who has breastfed two babies, one of whom I’m still nursing, I know how much quality nursing seating matters.

You spend a lot of time in a nursing chair early on so you want it to be comfortable.

Which is what this company is guaranteeing with its products.

When I wake up in the middle of the night to nurse my baby, I want to be comfortable and be able to nurse my baby comfortably as well.

And I have found that I’m able to do so with the nursing chair that they sent me.

Now that we know a little about Newborn Nursery Furniture, let’s get into my nursery essentials featuring their nursery chair.

Nursery Essentials Featuring Newborn Nursery Furniture

Nursery Chair

Since I have been talking so much about Newborn Nursery Furniture, I think it’s fair to start my nursery essentials with their Nursery Chair.

If you are a breastfeeding mama, you need to have a nursery chair in your nursery.

Even if you are not a nursing mama, a nursery chair is great to have in your nursery in general.

As I mentioned above, you will find yourself sitting in this chair often.

Whether you are feeding your baby or rocking your baby to sleep, you will find yourself gravitating towards this chair to do so.

This is why it is essential that you get a good, comfortable one.

As you all know by now, I was gifted a nursery chair from Newborn Nursery Furniture and the one I chose was this cream-colored rocking chair.

Not only does this chair look pretty and go with my daughter’s nursery, it is sturdy and comfortable.

It has a large wooden base rocker that provides a gentle rocking sensation which makes it ideal for nursing and cuddle sessions.

This chair has been the perfect addition to my daughter’s room and even when we transition her room into more of a big girl’s room, we can find a different use for it.

Whether it remains a part of her room or we can use it somewhere elsewhere in our home as an accent chair.

This beautiful chair has multiple uses.

Crib

Next up to have in your nursery is an obvious one.

And that is a crib.

You definitely need a crib in your nursery, but don’t panic if you don’t have one the day that you bring your baby home.

After becoming a mom for the first time, I thought I would be using the crib from day one.

But I learned pretty quickly that I much rather have my baby close to me during those early months.

For those who keep up with the blog, then you would know that I bed-shared with both of my babies early on.

And then once I felt more comfortable with them being in another room, I started to transition them to their cribs.

I successfully did it with my firstborn around the 8-month mark.

My second born took much longer and did not start sleeping in her crib at night until she was 18 months old.

So having a crib is something that you want in your nursery at some point whether you use it early on or later like I did.

When choosing a crib for your nursery, make sure you get one that can convert and transition with your child as they get older.

The crib that we used with both of my girls is the Fisher Price 4-in-1 Convertable Crib.

This crib can convert from a crib to a toddler bed to a day bed and lastly a full-size headboard.

This crib can stay with your child well into their early childhood years which is exactly what we have been doing.

You save so much money in the long run when you buy a convertible crib and that’s a win in my book.

Unfortunately, they no longer make this crib so I will link a similar Graco option below.

Changing Table/Dresser

This is something that some people may not consider a nursery essential, but I genuinely think you should have an area dedicated to changing your little one.

Some people have an area on a dresser where they can change their baby.

We have an actual changing table that also doubles as a shelf.

The top part of the table is dedicated to diaper changing.

And then we use the bottom part as storage for diapering supplies as well as toys at the very bottom for my little one to have access to.

The great part about our changing table is that once she transitions out of diapers, this table will convert to a book and toy shelf that can remain in her room as she gets older.

You can probably tell by now that it is essential to get furniture pieces that last past the baby phase.

As much as it may be hard to grasp, our little ones don’t stay little forever so we have to be to adjust to each phase and try to keep the changes that we have to make minimal.

I will link our changing table below.

Diaper Pail

While on the topic of changing diapers, you want to have a diaper pail in your nursery.

Especially if you are going to be changing diapers in the nursery, you want somewhere to put the dirty stinky diapers.

A diaper pail not only gives you somewhere to put those diapers, but it also conceals the smell.

Your nursery stays fresh and smelling good and you have somewhere accessible to trash those diapers.

The diaper pail that I have is the one that I shared in my newborn essentials as a second-time mom.

And that is the Munchkin Diaper Pail.

I have had this diaper pail for 5 years and it still going strong.

I will link the pail below.

Sound Machine

Something else that I consider a nursery must have is a sound machine.

Don’t underestimate the power of the sound machine when you have a baby.

Babies and even small children find so much comfort in the noise of the sound machine when sleeping.

To this day, both of my girls (who are 2 and 4) still sleep with a sound machine.

But I started when they were babies.

One of the cool things about the sound machine I use with my girls is that it doubles as a night light.

My girls love their Munchkin Sound Machine.

Blackout Curtains

Not only do I consider a sound machine as part of my nursery essentials when it comes to sleep.

But having blackout curtains is a must as well.

Nap time matters around here because it allows me to get things done without having to worry about my little one.

So when my daughter is napping, I want her to get a full nap that lasts for an hour and a half to 2 hours.

Obviously, I can’t control how long my daughter naps, but if I can create an environment that encourages longer sleep, then I will do so.

Which is where blackout curtains come in.

Blackout curtains are great to have in your nursery for blocking out bright sunlight that can disturb your little one which means they may sleep longer.

And don’t we all love it when our kiddos sleep a little longer?

You can get blackout curtains pretty much anywhere.

I typically get mine at Target.

Baby Monitor

And the last baby nursery must-have that I’m going to mention is a baby monitor.

For obvious reasons, you want to be able to see and hear your baby if you are in a different room.

Baby monitors give you that security.

As I just mentioned, make sure to get a baby monitor that only allows you to see your baby and most of the room as well as one that detects sound.

Since your baby’s only form of communication is crying, you can expect it to happen quite a bit while they are in their nursery.

So you want to be able to hear and react as needed.

The baby monitor that we use is the VTech Smart Wifi Baby Monitor.

We love this baby monitor because the monitor itself is a good size screen so you can see a wider range of her room and we can use our phones if we don’t have the monitor physically with us.

It also alerts when it detects motion and temperature changes in the room.

The monitor will be linked below.
