What To Put On Your Baby Registry As A Second Time Mom

“Do I need to set up a baby registry as a second-time mom?”

This was something I asked myself when I found out I was pregnant with our second child and I actually did not know.

Obviously, you want one when you have your first child because it’s your first and you are literally starting from scratch with nothing.

But what about your second child? Or even a third child?

I found myself asking this in a support group that I am in and the overwhelming response from the ladies in that group was ABSOLUTELY.

Whether it is your first child or your 5th child, you can always have a baby registry, because you will probably still need something.

The more children you have, the less big stuff you will likely need because you probably have that covered from your previous child.

But all those small little things such as pacifiers, teethers, bibs, and burping cloths are things that you will likely need to buy again depending on the way they were treated with the previous child.

After I found out that I was having a baby girl is when I decided to get started on building my registry.

Here is what I put on my baby registry as a second-time mom.

Are Baby Registries Actually Necessary?

Before I get to what I put on my baby registry for my second baby, let me answer this question because I often hear that baby registries are pointless and no one actually buys anything from them.

So are baby registries actually necessary?

The short answer to this question is No.

The longer answer is No, but they are a great tool to utilize when trying to get the things you need for your baby.

Some people think it is tacky to have a baby registry or even useless to have one because people are going to do what they want anyway.

This might be true, but by creating a baby registry, you are actually putting the items that you ACTUALLY need in a list format.

So if anyone asks what you need (which you will hear over and over from family and friends), you can point them in the right direction by simply telling them to check out the registry that you created.

They can then see the exact items that you want and need for your little one and get those for you without having to guess what to get.

I personally think it’s genius because I know would want to get stuff that people actually need instead of getting them something cute that will just be sitting in the corner somewhere.

There is nothing wrong with getting those cute little items, but you may want to grab something off the registry as well.

Another perk of creating a baby registry is the free welcome gifts you get once you have registered and the completion discounts that you can get a month or so before you are due.

So let’s say that you made a registry and the majority of the items were bought and all you had left was a few smaller items.

Well, now you can get the rest of those items discounted.

And a lot of the discounts are available after your due date as well.

There are just too many perks to creating a registry than not creating one.

What I Put On My Baby Registry As A Second Time Mom

The route that O’m going to take with my baby registry as a second time mom is to start with any big items that I registered for and work my way down to the smaller items.

The places that I registered at are Amazon and Target and I cannot recommend these two places enough when it comes to building a registry.

Amazon is a MUST because they pretty much have EVERYTHING.

Amazon also makes it super easy for family and friends to browse your registry and have things shipped directly to you quickly.

This is great for times like these when many moms are opting for a drive-by baby shower.

And Target is just great.

Need I say more?

But on a more serious note, Target is a great in-store option for those who are attending your baby shower and want to bring gifts in person as well as have items shipped to you.

Target also has great deals on diapers and wipes and you can use that completion discount on those types of items as well.

Car Seats/Strollers

We will be using the same infant car seat and single stroller set from our first daughter which was the Evenflo Pivot Modular Travel System With SafeMax Car Seat.

However, we knew that with having a newborn and a 2-year-old, we needed to upgrade our stroller from a single to a double stroller in order to accommodate both of our children on the go.

The double stroller that we opted to register for was the Graco Ready2Grow LX 2.0 Double Stroller because of the multiple options it provides for our older daughter such as a stroller or bench seat for sitting or a platform for standing.

We also decided that we needed to get the matching car seat base in order to move the infant car seat from one vehicle to the other vehicle.

Car Seat Accessories

So I completely looked over this section when I had my daughter because I didn’t think I needed some of those items.

Lesson learned.

These types of things come into play as your baby gets older when they are eating and drinking in their car seats.

And when they turn around and have the ability to kick the seat in front of them.

You want to protect your seats as best as you can from all the accidents that can occur because they will occur.

I am learning this with my 2-year-old and I knew that I wanted to make sure I was a little more prepared with this little one.

We registered for the Munchkin Brica Elite Seat Guardian Car Seat Protector and the Munchkin Brica Deluxe Kick Mats because of the amazing reviews on both of these items.

We also registered for the Munchkin Brica 360 Pivot Baby In-Sight Adjustable Car Mirror as well so we can our baby while she is rear-facing.

Baby Gear

As we analyzed the gear that we already had, we noticed a few things that we would need because they were either broken or did not work for us with our daughter.

The first thing we both knew that we needed was a new bouncer/swing.

We did not spend a lot of money on the first bouncer we had gotten our daughter and you pretty much pay for what you get.

It ultimately became an extra seat for her to sit in because the bouncing part on it stopped working.

So we choose to spend a little more money this time around and registered for the Ingenuity DreamComfort InLighten Cradling Swing

This swing had good reviews and we liked that it didn’t require batteries, has a light-up mobile, and has several swing speeds.

The next thing I knew I wanted to look into was another baby carrier.

In particular, a baby wrap.

I currently have the Infantino Flip Advanced 4-in-1 Carrier which worked great for my daughter and I will probably also use it with this child as they get older.

But I wanted to give a baby wrap this time around because of the benefits I have heard of using one.

Especially in the 4th trimester.

The one I chose was the Boba Wrap Baby Carrier because of the stretchy, breathable fabric and the high number of positive reviews it had.

The last baby gear item that I opted to put on our registry was a new baby gym. Once again, we did not spend a lot of money on the one we had previously so it ultimately fell apart.

The one I registered for is this Wooden Baby Gym by little dove that you can get on Amazon.

I loved the Montessori aspect of it as well as its ability to be folded up and stored away when not in use.

Nursery/Bedding

When we bring our baby girl home, she will be rooming with us and sleeping in the same pack-n-play that we already had used with our first daughter.

Once she transitions out of our room, she will be getting her big sister’s crib, while her big sister will be getting a toddler bed.

The only thing we will get for her in this category is new bedding as well as some new swaddles.

I registered for these Velcro ones from SwaddleMe.

Nursing/Breastfeeding

The very first thing I knew I wanted on my registry when it came to nursing was a new Haakaa Silicone Breast Pump.

It is a complete game-changer in the breastfeeding game.

I would use this pump on the breast that I wasn’t nursing my daughter on to catch any of the milk that would naturally leak when I was nursing.

So instead of the milk going to waste in the breast pad, I could save and store this milk for another time.

The next thing I knew I needed was a new nursing cover because I will be likely breastfeeding this little one in public at times and prefer to cover up.

The one I chose was the Boppy Boho Nursing Cover.

And for those who are interested, I already have the Boppy Nursing Pillow which I will be using again with this baby.

Lastly, I did register for all the essentials when it comes to breastfeeding care which consisted of:

Feeding

This category really just consisted of getting plates, bowls, utensils, cups, and bottles.

Little stuff that we all could use as these items become worn out over time.

I’m a big fan of the Cloud Island brand from Target so I just added a bunch of those little things to my registry.

And the bottles that I like using are the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Baby Bottles.

A new brand that I’m really excited to give a try is called Mushie.

They specialize in silicone bibs, handmade pacifier clips, silicone dinnerware, and toys, and organic muslin swaddles, but I really want to try the pacifier clips and dinnerware.

Be sure to use my referral code if you are interested in trying any of these products for 20% off!

Diapering

Besides adding diapers and wipes, there were a couple of things that we needed in this category as well.

Starting with a new diaper bag.

My previous bag got really worn out from my first daughter so I have decided to look into a new diaper bag as well.

The bag that I opted for is this black one from BabbleRoo.

It has so many pockets as well as insulated pockets, a changing pad, and even a pacifier case.

Plus, I just like the overall look of this backpack with the brown details.

We will be using the same Munchkin Diaper Pail that we used with our daughter

I also currently use the Munchkin Arm & Hammer Diaper Bag Dispenser for my diaper bag.

The only new thing I am giving a try this time around is the Munchkin Toss Portable Disposable Diaper Pails

We currently live in a two-story home, so we are hoping to utilize this downstairs when we are changing diapers.

Bathing

Of course, we needed the regular bath items such as body wash, shampoo, and lotion which we did register for.

But we definitely needed a new bathtub for this little one because the one we had before had run its course.

I wanted to give the new Skip Hop Moby Recline & Rinse Baby Bath Tub a try.

And I also registered for the Skip Hop Moby Baby Bath Kneeler Pad to go with it because I realized how hard it was on my knees with my first daughter.

Health & Safety

And the last categoy that I have in my baby registry as a second time mom is healthy and safety.

This category consisted of getting baby medicine, pacifiers, and grooming.

I always tell people to make sure they add medicine to their registry because, at some point, their baby may get sick.

I made sure to add things like:

In regards to pacifiers, my daughter loved the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Pacifiers, but I decided to give a different brand a try this go-round.

I registered for the Itzy Ritzy Sweetie Soothers and BIBS Pacifiers because I had heard nothing but good things about both of these brands and wanted to give them a try.

Both these pacifiers can be found at Target and Amazon, but I personally got the BIBS pacifiers from a small business called Ivory Cradle.

And those ladies were kind enough to give me a coupon code for any purchases you want to make!

So make sure to use JASMYN15 to get 15% off your purchase!

Another baby health brand that many moms rave about is FridaBaby so I decided to add a few of their products to my registry as well to try out. These included:

And lastly, I registered for another Hair Brush and Comb Set that can be found on Amazon.

.

Your Turn

Alright well, that about covers it as far as what I put on my baby registry as a second-time mom. And as you can see, I mostly just went for the basics of what we actually needed as well as added a few new products that we could try out to see if we liked them.

Notice that I did not mention clothes and that is because this little girl will be mostly wearing her big sister’s clothes. I did register for a couple of bodysuit sets just for the heck of it, but it is not really necessary. Most people like buying baby clothes anyway so I am expecting a few outfits from our parents and siblings.

I want to hear from you now. What are you putting on your baby registry as a second-time mom? Are you even considering a baby registry? I would love to hear from you all in the comments and while you are still here, check out my previous blog post below. Until next time!
