My 4-Year-Old’s Preschool Morning Routine
It’s been a few months since my 4-year-old has been in preschool, so I thought I would share her morning routine with you all.
For those that have been keeping up with the blog, then you know that my oldest daughter started preschool last year.
I can link a few of my previous blog posts below on her preschool journey for you to check out if you are interested.

Since she has been in preschool for the last 4 months, we have solidified a morning routine that allows us to get what we need to get done in the mornings and out the door on time for school.
And this entire routine takes place with my 19-month-old as well.
My husband usually leaves either before we do or with us in the mornings so I have to make sure that my youngest daughter is also ready to go.
Even though I am also getting my youngest ready in the morning as well, this morning routine will focus mainly on my 4-year-old and what she does in the morning.
So if you are interested in what a morning of a 4-year-old preschooler looks like, then just keep reading.

Does A 4 Year Old Really Need A Morning Routine?
Before I dive into my 4-year-old’s morning routine, let’s talk about this.
Does a 4-year-old really need a morning routine?
If you know me, then you know my answer is an absolute yes.
As someone who has a morning routine myself, I would absolutely have my children follow a routine as well.
In fact, according to this article from Eden Praire Montessori, they talk about the importance of starting a morning routine early on with your children.
Even before they start school so that they already have an idea of how mornings typically go.
Which is exactly what I have been doing.
Some of the good habits I have been teaching my daughter before she started preschool were getting up around the same time every day, eating breakfast, and getting dressed.

She has been doing these things since before she was two and you will notice in her routine below that she still does these things.
So when it came time to start preschool in the mornings, it wasn’t much of a difference.
She already knew that she had to wake up, get dressed, and grab a light breakfast because she was already doing that before she had to be in school.
If you don’t already have a morning routine in place for your child, then I highly recommend it.
Especially for children of stay-at-home moms.
It is so easy to let your child sleep in all morning and let them stay in their pajamas all day because you may not be leaving the house that day.
Don’t get me wrong.
I have days where I’m lounging around all day in loungewear
But I don’t make it a habit.
Our mornings typically go pretty smoothly and I truly believe it is because my daughter already knows what she has to do.
Now that we know the importance of your 4-year-old having a morning routine, let’s get into my daughter’s preschool morning routine.
My 4-Year-Old’s Preschool Morning Routine
7:10 AM: Wake Up & Get Dressed
The very first thing I have my daughter do is get dressed shortly after waking up.
I normally wake up at 6:30 AM to get myself together first and afterward, I wake her up and help her put her clothes on.
After she puts on her clothes, I then get her younger sister up to get her dressed, and then we all head into the bathroom.
7:20 AM: Wash Face & Brush Teeth
After she is dressed, we head into the bathroom to wash her face and brush her teeth.
I try to let my daughter take the lead when it comes to these daily hygienic habits and follow up behind her.
I want her to understand the importance of doing these things daily so if I am practicing it with her daily now, then it will likely stick with her later.
7:30 AM: Brush Hair
Once the girls have had their faces washed and their teeth brushed, then I proceed to do their hair.
If you caught my older daughter’s curly hair care routine that I shared last year, then you know that I style her hair to last at least a week.
So I am mostly just touching up her hair in the mornings throughout the week until it is time to wash it again.
7:40 AM: Make Bed, Grab Snack, & Head Out
And lastly, after all, that has been done, I will have my daughter make her bed.
While she is making her bed, I usually load up her backpack with her cup, a snack (which is usually muffins), and which ever stuffed animal she wants to take with her to school that day.
My daughter’s preschool serves lunch so I don’t have to worry about making her lunch which cuts out a lot of time
Once we are all ready, we head out the door and load up in the car to go to school.

This is such great info! There are definitely benefits to having a routine as an adult but setting those routine for a child is benefitial, also having healthy habits to carry into later in life, as well as making the parents life easier.
