Black Owned Baby Care Brands To Try

When it comes to finding black-owned baby care brands, the internet can come in handy.

I know as a black mom raising black children, it is important to me to make sure that I’m using baby and children’s products that will work for my girls.

And if these products are also created by black women and black men, then there is a much higher chance that they would work for them.

I know that since I’m a black stay-at-home mom sharing my life as a mom raising 2 black children here on the blog I have other black moms that follow me as well.

I have shared other posts in the past that many moms have found helpful when it comes to being a black stay-at-home mom and sharing products that would work for black children.

And I want to continue to share more black content that my audience may find helpful.

Since I have a 1-year-old and a 4-year-old, I want to highlight a few black-owned baby brands in case you are wanting to give these black-owned businesses a try.

I have personally tried a couple of these brands and like them.

But I am going to also include some other brands that I have not tried yet so that you all have options to choose from.

If you are looking for some black-owned baby care brands to try, then just keep reading.

Why Do Black Children Need Their Own Brands?

Before I dive into those black-owned baby brands, let’s talk about this.

Why do black children need their own brands?

And not just black children either.

Black people period.

Why do black people need their own brands?

I can only speak as a black American because that is what I am.

But in this country, we make up a small part of the population.

The majority of people in this county do not look like me.

The majority of children in this country do not look like my children.

So the majority of the products and practices that are created here cater to the majority of the people who live here.

Which leaves very few products and practices that cater to the minority.

As much as society wishes it could just see past race and color, there are just some things that you can’t see past.

We have different skin colors which means that we may have different skin concerns.

We have different hair types which means that we may have different hair concerns.

Not everything that is made for the majority will work for minorities.

This is exactly why it is important that we as black people are also creating brands that we know will work for us.

Representation matters.

So if we are seeing other black women and black men creating and using products that cater more to black skin and black hair, then we are much more likely to use them as well.

This is what lead me to share the following black-owned brands below.

Now let’s get into some black-owned baby care brands that you can give a try.

Black Owned Baby Care Brands To Try

Proudly

The very first black-owned baby brand that I want to share is Proudly.

This is a brand that I have tried, used, and really liked.

Proudly is a baby care brand created by Gabrielle Union-Wade and Dwayne Wade that specializes in caring for melanated skin.

This baby care line consists of diapers, wipes, body wash, body lotion, diaper cream, baby oil, moisturizing balm, and even a calming spray.

From this line, I have used body wash, body lotion, baby oil, moisturizing balm, and calming spray.

I did not care for the body wash, but I absolutely love the lotion, baby oil, and calm spray.

The lotion and oil are so moisturizing and if you really want to amp up the moisture, you can layer the balm as well.

During my daughters’ bedtime routine, I will have her spray the calming spray on her pillows before she goes to sleep.

I really like Proudly and will continue to use this brand.

You can find Proudly products on their website as well as in stores at Target.

I will link the bundle that includes the body lotion, nourishing oil, and all-over balm below.

TinkyPoo Diapers

Another black-owned baby care brand that creates diapers is TinkyPoo Diapers.

I have never used this diaper brand before, but I have heard great things about this brand which is why I wanted to share it.

For those unfamiliar with TinkyPoo Diapers, it was created by wife and mother, Nadiyah Spencer, who has more than 20 years of experience working in apparel manufacturing.

After discovering that the diaper industry was lacking in visibility when it came to images that depicted babies of color, Nadiyah and her partners decided to change the industry, and TinkyPoo was born.

These diapers are natural and organic, super absorbent, and have a wetness indicator.

You can find these diapers on their website.

Pretty Please Teethers

The next black-owned brand that I wanted to share is Pretty Please Teethers.

This brand was founded by Kelli in 2017 who was looking for safe and natural teething products for her youngest child at the time but could not find any.

So she decided to create her own.

This brand not only sells teething toys.

But also pacifiers, bibs, cups, and dinnerware.

The silicone used to create the products are eco-friendly and free of BPA, PVC, latex, phthalate, and lead.

These products are absolutely beautiful and fit a modern aesthetic if that is something that you are interested in.

You can find these products on their website as well as online at Target.

Darlyng & Co.

Another brand that also seeks to solve their teething baby’s problem is Darlyng & Co.

Darlyng & Co. was founded by the married couple, Carl and Tara Darnley, who realized that their daughter was teething early so they created a product to help with that.

Their signature product is the Yummy Mit Teething Mitten.

And this product would be what launched this brand.

Since creating that teething mitten, they have expanded to create other products as well such as skincare, body care, oral care, hair care, dinnerware, blankets, bibs, and even apparel.

You can find these products on their website, Amazon, and online at Target.

Stina & Mae

This next brand was also created off one product originally and that is Stina & Mae.

This brand was founded by Mishell, who was finding it difficult to find a changing mat that kept her son from touching gross public changing tables.

So like the family above, she created one.

Since launching her first product which was a changing pat, she has also created baby blankets, swaddles, nursery bedding, and cotton bibs.

You can find these products on their website as well as online at Target and Nordstrom.

The Rooted Baby Co.

And the last black-owned baby care brand that I wanted to share is The Rooted Baby Co.

This brand was founded by Alfreda Abena and her husband after giving birth to their son in 2018.

As a child, her father would tell her and her younger siblings stories about his life growing up in Ghana.

And through these stories, she took a lot of pride in her Ghana roots and created baby accessories with vibrant Ghanaian art and fabric.

The Rooted Baby Co. offers bows, bedding, swaddles, teething toys, wooden toys, and dinnerware.

You can check out these products on their website.

Super cute pics, and I love this idea. I feel so happy knowing that there are choices nowadays for moms of all shades. Also, baby products are good for all ages bc they almost always are more natural. Thank you for making posts like this.
